INDIRA GANDHI MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL, also known as Himachal Pradesh Medical College, is located in the snow-covered area of Lakkar Bazaar, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Its motto is “May all be happy, May all be disease-free.” It was established in 1966. In 1984, Himachal Pradesh Medical College [HPMC] was renamed Indira Gandhi Medical College [IGMC].

History of Indira Gandhi Medical College

The area of Indira Gandhi Medical College was a dense forest. The transformation of Shimla started after 1816. Most of the Britishers moved to Shimla due to the cold and soothing climate. On the land of IGMC British quarters were built. Due to the increasing demand for medical support, the British Government built slauten hospital in 1881. After the independence the slauten hospital was converted into a medical institute in 1966, named as Himachal Pradesh Medical College.

Vendor’s Spirit on The Forest Road

There is a way to college, which is situated along the IGMC called the forest road. On the forest road, people started selling fruits and vegetables due to the increasing crowd. Most of the people use forest road as way to Indira Gandhi Medical College, so they are well known to these people or local vendors. Suddenly, on the forest road a local vendor died which was selling oranges and other fruits, as people are close to that person. So, they talked about that person, how he died and so on?

But after some days, people who are using forest roads experienced something strange. They saw a local vendor on the forest road. After this incident people have a fear of forest roads. People who are passing through forest roads have experienced something negative.

A Nurse in white – Another Chilling Mystery

Now, another mysterious secret related to IGMC is that the students of Indira Gandhi Medical College or people have seen a British nurse wearing white in the campus of Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla. They call her a nurse in white.

The staff, students and patient accepted that they have experienced paranormal activities or some kind of negativity in the hospital and college campus. People experience some weird kind of noise, and they feel that something is wrong inside the campus especially during night time. When they use stairs they also feel that someone is dragging them from behind. Sometimes they feel trapped inside the lift.

Indira Gandhi Medical College stands as the largest medical facility not only in the Shimla but also across the state. It is one of the best hospitals of Himachal Pradesh. The students and staff complain about that there are some strange activities happened in the lift, room and corridors. Doctors, staff, students have frequently noticed these activities particularly in the lifts, corridors and stairs like hearing cries, the feeling of pushed.

Because of its proper and best services thousands of people come here for treatment daily. So, the high death rates of this hospital is pretty normal. Many people claimed that these paranormal events are caused by the spirits of those people who died in the hospital. Rather than its medical status, it has a darker side too, as it is one of the most haunted places in Shimla.
