Packing fragile items can feel like a gamble — one wrong move and that delicate ornament arrives in pieces. The secret to safe transit? Bubble wrap. At Premium Packaging, we’re firm believers in its cushioning magic — when used properly.
First things first: choose the right kind of bubble wrap for the job. Small-bubble varieties work best for light, fragile goods (glassware, ceramics), while larger bubbles are ideal for heavier or bulkier items.
Once you have the right bubble wrap, here’s how to wrap like a pro:
Lay flat and start clean Use a clear, flat surface. Spread out a sheet of bubble wrap, ensuring the bubble side faces the item (i.e. the bubbles touching the object) — this gives better cushioning and helps grip the item.
Wrap thoroughly and with care Place your item in the centre, then fold edges over so it’s fully surrounded. For objects with protruding bits (handles, edges), wrap those parts more carefully. Don’t hesitate to use multiple layers for extra protection.
Secure with good tape Use strong packing tape to fasten the bubble wrap so it doesn’t slide off during transit. Tape along the edges and seams.
Box packing + void filling Place the wrapped item into a sturdy box bigger than the object. Fill gaps around it with crumpled paper, extra bubble wrap, or packing peanuts so that nothing shifts. If you hear rattling when you shake the box, you’ll need more cushioning.
Reinforce fragile edges & corners These are high-stress points. Add extra layers or padding over corners to absorb impacts.
Label the box “Fragile — handle with care” Even the best wrap helps if handlers know to be gentle.
Remember — bubble wrap works beautifully when combined with proper boxes and support materials. It’s not a stand-alone shield. And while bubble wrap is widely used for protecting delicate items, avoid compressing it too much, as that reduces its shock absorption.
At Premium Packaging, we emphasise smart, methodical packing. Use the right bubble wrap, wrap with precision, and pack tightly but flexibly. Do all that, and your items have a much better chance of landing intact — no drama, no heartbreak.
