Introduction

Food is not just fuel; it’s trust, tradition, and livelihood. In a country as diverse as India, where millions depend on the food industry for consumption and employment, ensuring food safety is critical. This responsibility falls under the FSSAI, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

If you’re involved in any part of the food chain, manufacturing, processing, packaging, distribution, storage, transport, or sale, you need an FSSAI Registration Certificate. More than just a compliance requirement, this certificate reflects your credibility, quality standards, and consumer commitment.

What is the FSSAI Registration Certificate?

The FSSAI Registration Certificate is an official document issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It legally authorizes a food business operator (FBO) to manufacture, store, distribute, and sell food products in India.

It includes:

  • FSSAI 14-digit license number

  • Name and address of the business

  • Type of food business

  • Validity period

  • QR code for verification

This license ensures that the food business follows the standards set under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006.

Why is FSSAI Registration Necessary?

  1. Legal Requirement: Mandatory for all FBOs as per the FSS Act, 2006.

  2. Consumer Trust: Builds confidence in the safety and hygiene of food served or sold.

  3. Market Access: Enables participation in retail chains, e-commerce platforms, and government contracts.

  4. Avoid Penalties: Running a food business without FSSAI certification can result in heavy fines or imprisonment.
